Easter 2004 : In 2004 we had our first Easter Egg hunt. In previous years, I resisted having one at the Rice Lake House because our yard is so small. I finally persuaded someone (I think it was MIFA but they deny everything) that we should try it at the Sports Grounds which has this lovely garden next to the gym that no one ever uses. It worked great! We had about 40 kids plus parents, and a lot of fun. About half of the participants came from ABC Kids students. After the Hunt we walked down the hill to the Dam Office that ABC Kids was renting as a Preschool. ABC Kids offered the Easter Egg Hunt participants coffee and snacks and a chance to use the rest rooms! I call that "good cooperation".

Cooking Classes : For a couple of years, we had these great International Coking Classes where guests chefs came in and cooked. It meant that everyone didn't have to eat just MY bad cooking! We had Italian, Hawaiian, Vietnamese, Philippine, Chinese, and I did an ZUCHHINI and Mexican one.

Easter 2001 and Mom in Miharu : In the spring of 2001 my mother, Phyllis, came to visit us in Miharu. And my student, Kazu Yaginuma, made these great balloon decorations for the house. I also found a Gospel singing group to come and perform at the Rice Lake House (for mom). It was very cool!

Kimono and Tea May 2006 : In May of 2006, Amber Wilson (of Rice Lake) and her friend Kate (of Minnesota) visited Miharu from Korea where they were teaching English. So, we got together some volunteers to show them Japanese kimono and tea ceremony. Along with Amber and Kate, Jenna Wood (currently teaching in Miharu from Eau Claire, WI) and her friend Carrie Jo (also of Eau Claire), along with Dustin Smith (of Rice Lake - currently on a 6 month home stay in Miharu), and Josh Howie (Luck, WI, and Jeana's nephew, visiting for 3 months) also participated. Thanks to the volunteers, everyone had a great time! Thank you Mrs. Fukaiya, Murakami, Takada, Chieko Endo, Toshiyo Sampei, Kuniko Ouchi, and Keiko Nemoto. Also Hiroko Yokoyama, Satoshi Itoh, Alaine Davis, and Kevin for all your help! And don't forget Kazue Morijiri who helped with all the planning and the lunch!
